Watch Video: An Armed Society Is a Polite Society? An Old XBOX Advertisement That Was Banned Years Ago Shows Why Carrying Guns In Public — Concealed Or Openly — Puts Everyone At Risk
When President Obama came to Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Aug. 11th to talk about his health care plan, one protester, William Kostric of Mancester, arrived openly carrying a loaded 9mm handgun in a holster strapped to the outside of his pant leg β and holding a sign that read βIt is Time to Water the Tree of Liberty.β
During an interview on MSNBC with Chris Matthews, Kostric said that a "firearm is a defensive tool." He also had the audacity to suggest that if everyone in the room was armed with a gun listening to the President speak, the event would have safer.
This is without a doubt the embodiment of the gun lobby's dangerous and irresponsible myth: that an "armed society is a polite society."
But this old XBOX advertisement that was banned several years ago shows the complete opposite. Depending on your worldview and experience, viewers will undoubtedly have many different responses to this video. But we think it makes a dramatic and cogent argument for keeping all guns -- concealed or openly carried -- out of our public spaces.
