I was just curious if you are pro-gun or anti-gun. It seems, from the letters I looked thru, you lean towards the anti-gun crowd. Either way, I am a proud life member of the NRA. I think this is the best move I have made. To those people that believe we don't need guns hopefully they will never be in a situation where it is needed and not be available. You people(anti-gun) need to wake up and realize that the police cannot protect you 24/7. You must take personnal responsibility for your own safety and that of your family(nobody will or can). Long live the right to keep and bear arms(both open and concealed). Thank God for the right to do so.

The anti-gun people, the anti-tobacco people, the anti-abortion people and the anti-drug people all have quite a bit in common. Members of these prestigious groups cannot think or make decisions for themselves, they don't want others to be able to and they despise those who are capable of thinking and making decisions for themselves. In short, they're all carved out of the same lump of shit. That's why most of them (except the anti-drug and abortion people) vote Democrat. When you vote Democrat, you are basically telling the candidate that you are mentally incompetent. The 2000 Presidential Election is proof that most Americans are mentally incompetent. More than half voted for Gore. In the end, they got what they deserved, FUCKED!! I laughed my ass off when the sobbing sisters and weak kneed brothers howled when Bush won and I laughed until I cried when Ashcroft was nominated!! However, I DO NOT agree with everything Bush supports. I think the War on Drugs is an expensive joke and our nations drug laws are a fraud. And as for him opposing abortion, I think he needs a reality check. There's too many people in the world. But the main thing, people who support gun control should be found guilty of treason, plain and simple. They don't deserve to live in this country. I'm not going to sit here all day b/c I've got things to do. I will say one last thing. All you sinister Nazi-sympathizng gun grabbers can forget about seeing a gun control bill pass through Congress for a long time. Unfortunately for you assholes, the gun control agenda was smashed into the World Trade Center.

you people are really menatlly ill in my opinon. Are you all Dimocrats? Do you have Janet Reno underware on? (Yes, I spelled Dimocrat right) All your bulbs are burnt out as far as I and millions of others are concerned. In my opinion!

Dear editors,

"In a room where people unanimously maintain a conspiracy of silence, one word of truth sounds like a pistol shot." Czeslaw Milosz, Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Dec 1980

I am so pleased to stumble upon your site, via Buzzflash. This is wonderful. I think that this issue, this notion that guns are a cornerstone of American civilization has harmed our society, our culture and our stature in the world.

I do not believe that hunters should not have their rifles, but I do not agree that they need AK47s to shoot deer.

This has gone way out of hand and I am concerned re the personality-types who seem to be so enamored with guns. They are brought way too easily to irrational rage, and, they are armed to the teeth, all in the name of being "good" Americans. The irony of this is very clear and your work, your enlightenment can only help.

Keep putting sunshine on the truth. It is musical, these pistol shots of truth.

Kind regards,

I enjoyed reading your review of the AK-47 page at http://members.tripod.com/sa93/ak47.html. Although I consider myself strongly pro-gun rights I do read and sincerely try to understand alternative points of view, so I hope you don't see this as a hostile reply.

It may seem odd from your perspective that some gun collectors and history buffs, whom I presume you assume to be staunchly on the political right, would honor Mr. Kalashikov and his most famous creation, the AK-47. Please allow me to offer that in my experience most people who collect classic firearms are far more interested in the weapon's involvement in human history and in the mechanics of the device itself than in its potential for misuse by criminals, or in the politics of the country in which it was developed.

I don't own an AK myself as obtaining one legally while living under Caliban rule would be impossible (short of founding my own town and declaring myself Chief of Police), but I do collect old military firearms. As an amateur machinist I recognize the elegance and beauty inherent in the design and manufacture of guns, which often represent the best available metallurgy and manufacturing process of their time.

At the risk (perhaps near certainty) of being labelled as picky, I have to point out that none of the US crimes you mentioned (CIA headquarters; Wakefield, MA; Stockton, CA; or Louisville, KY) was an actual AK-47 used. All of those cases involved semiautomatic-only versions of or "clones" of the Kalashnikov design, which do share many parts with a real AK but are incapable of automatic fire. The semiautomatic clones were developed specifically for the American consumer market, allowing American gun collectors, casual target shooters, and unfortunately in some cases violent criminals to own and use these amazingly robust, reliable, durable rifles.

Carry on your good work. I look forward to reading your future colums.

There will always be people out there that will want to take advantage or do harm to my Daughter, Wife, Family But you will not see my Daughter, Wife and the rest of my Family become victims to these people because their guns will protect them. Live in today's world and teach your family to protect themselves. Don't lose a loved one because you lived in a make believe world were the bad guys have no guns.

Don’t know where you guy get your info but I can print just as much about people protecting themselves (with Guns) as you can about the people that are unprotected getting hurt. By the way I own an AK-47 and have a ball taking it to the range and shooting it. It is no more dangerous than any other automatic rifle. I sleep safe at night knowing that my family is protected from the bad guys that you want to protect. How do you account for the worst act of terror in this country had nothing to do with guns! Fools! If the passengers had been allowed to protect themselves then the twin towers would still be standing tall. In a free society it is up to the people to protect themselves and you would take that right away. I have a good idea though, move, there are countries that ascribe to your ideology, of course you might not live long enough to enjoy it. By the way I would be proud if you print this!
