Women Against Gun Control

Dear Gun Guys,

Attn: Mike Magnum

Thank you so much for the visitors and new members that you sent to the Women Against Gun Control website!

It sounds to me like you're pro-gun and that you really respect women who stand up and fight for the right to protect our husbands and children from those who would do us harm.

How come we only got 3 out of 5 rounds?

And I'm glad that you like my voice! I'll sing to you anytime you like! That's really what I'm best at--singing and playing the piano. Heck, singing and shooting, pianos and pistols--that's what we do best!

If you'd ever like to meet with any of us ladies of high caliber, you know who to contact us. We'll even make you some homemade cookies!

Best regards,

Janalee Tobias, President, WAGC

Gun Control

Ok, here's something you must not understand.

The second ammendment is a RIGHT not a PRIVILIGE. I'm not going to beat a dead horse by going on and on, but here are some quick facts my feeble gun grabbing friends.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the RIGHT of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Now, if we are to strictly look at what it says, it is refering to primarily to arms that are designed for militia, not hunting guns.

Ok, we are guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms. Since the context of the Constitution refers to military arms, this would also include so called "assault weapons" Come on people, you really think semi-auto rifles are the cause of all the evil we see? is that what you really think? An unbalanced duck hunter could cause more damage with a 12 gauge shotgun than a whacked out maniac with a semi auto rifle and 30 round clip could.

I know this letter will be rebutted and rebutted again, but here you go. PLAIN AND SIMPLE SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH FREE SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO BE SECURE IN YOUR HOME!

Do doubt I'm a "crazy survivalist" whack job for believing this, or maybe you're just a bunch of gun grabbing idiots with no regard for the United States Constitution. It's all a matter of public or personal perception.

Follow the stats in Albuquerque for shootings. Seems like there's hardly a day and never a weekend without an 'event'.

Laughable

Dear Mailbag:

Some people....

This fellow's argument is laughable. It is inconsistent and anti-social. He makes me want to buy a gun for protection from him!

Guns reduce crime. Gun control increases crime, it is a fact. Look what happened to Australia; 44% increase in violent crime after the gun ban went into effect. The criminals know the citizens can't defend themselves!

Alternately, look at England where hardly anyone is allowed a gun. The beat cops carry nothing more harmful than a nightstick and a can of gas. And yet the English are not routinely ravished in their beds. I wonder why?

And I'd like a reference for the Australia point. I hadn't heard anything about a gun ban recently. And of course the citizens aren't the best at defending themselves; that's why they have armies and police forces to maintain law and order. It takes training to defend oneself, and in today's society you don't have wild animals and resentful natives trying to oust you, except in the Middle East.

We are all sovereign beings and may choose to own a firearm if we so desire.

True. I have no problem with hunting rifles. However, some guns are made specifically for killing people. Are my rights infringed by your owning an AK-47? If you were to get drunk and let off a few rounds once a week, I would feel intimidated and infringed. You can wear a pistol on your hip as long as it's obvious and the building lets it in, but how do you think people are going to react to you? You wouldn't get many cheerful "hello's" flashing heat.

It doesn't matter how many people are killed with a gun, on purpose or on accident.

It doesn't? I expect it matters to the people who have been shot, and to their relatives and friends. It matters to me. This is the anti-social part; this man would not care how many people he had to shoot, just so he could get to the gun store on time.

It is our right to own one for protection, hunting, or just plain fun and that right supercedes any dangers to society or individuals that may be associated with guns.

"Just plain fun?" A gun is a weapon, not a toy! This fellow was going on about how proper gun training saves lives, and now he's saying he plays with his guns? I can understand recreational shooting, but I hope he does it in a gun range.

No right can infringe upon another's well-being or freedom, especially if exercising that right endangers one's fellow citizens. In fact it is a responsibility to ensure that no one else gets hurt when you're having fun. They punish accidental death in this country; not severely, but it is a crime.

Gun owners will not be regulated and we will not go unarmed! I have more faith that my bullets provide better protection for my family that the bumbling police ever could.

Gee, I hope he doesn't mind that a stiff proportion of his taxes goes to support those "bumbling police" around his town. I wonder what he means by "bumbling," and whether his tune would be different if a relative of his was on the force. I hope the police realize their assistance isn't appreciated in this man's house, and that they let him deal with his own loss... as long as he doesn't hurt anybody.

In closing, I would like to say that the easiest place for criminals to get guns is from the household of a gun owner. The private citizen does not have the budget to set up a store-level security system; and if they compensate by keeping a loaded gun where they can easily get it, I hope they don't mind going to their childrens' funerals.

Pissing into the wind

Hi Gunguys,

I log onto your site every day, and am appalled at the death rate from guns. But, we are all pissing into the wind, if we think anything is going to change. In case you hadn't noticed, the inmates are in charge of the asylum.

Can't beat 'em? Join 'em!

Joseph Diamond has a good point, but buying guns en mass will only subsidize the corporations funding the NRA and the right wing. Instead, if 20 or 30 million of us JOINED the NRA and showed up at their yearly meeting, we could shut the whole thing down...PEACEFULLY. Just vote it out of existence....

Just an old hippy's pacifist viewpoint...

Your are so sad

Owning a firearm is a right, period, and there's not a damn thing you will ever do about it. Proper instruction in gun safety saves lives. Fear and ignorance kill. Guns are not a problem, people like you are. Cars kill more people, wouldn't you better serve the community by fighting against the killer automobile?

Guns reduce crime. Gun control increases crime, it is a fact. Look what happened to Australia; 44% increase in violent crime after the gun ban went into effect. The criminals know the citizens can't defend themselves!

We are all sovereign beings and may choose to own a firearm if we so desire. There is no justification for any other view. It doesn't matter how many people are killed with a gun, on purpose or on accident. It is our right to own one for protection, hunting, or just plain fun and that right supercedes any dangers to society or individuals that may be associated with guns.

Swiss Guns

It is a fact that every male in Switzerland becomes a member of the Army when he is 19 years old, and he is then issued a gun. However, he is not allowed to have any ammunition at his disposal. He is issued a sealed can of ammo....and he must present it each year to a Town official who checks that the seal is not broken. If a war should break out then the ammunition is immediately available, of course.

I like that! I think we should let everyone have a gun, but outlaw ammunition. Then neither the good guys or the bad guys could shoot each other.

HAHA - Women Against Gun Control

I always laugh when something like this comes up.

"Women Against Gun Control" Hey, they've even got a woman on the web page! I'll bet she just loves the guns with the longer barrels! And look at the feminine color scheme! Must be one tough broad that's behind this organization, huh?

Well, no. Just like every other organization purportedly looking out for women by promoting policies that further endanger or enslave them, like the anti-abortionists, the promisekeepers, or the plethora of other "family values" outfits, this organization is run by a man! Gee, what a surprise!

Sally

I read somewhere that they discovered an Al-Qaeda manual which mentions the easy availability of guns in the US. Also, the IRA has mentioned this, too.

Any idea where I can get these cites? Thanks, keep up the good work!!

Came to your site from MHO. Lifelong resident of New York with the exception of five years in Calif. so gun control seems natural. Last week I had the unusual (for me) experience of travelling 800 miles by car through rural Texas and Oklahoma. Spent week listening to right wing radio and thumbing Guns and Ammo and Soldier Of Fortune at truckstops. While travelling a thought occurred to me. Since the present administration is busy curtailing many rights with the exception of second amendment rights, why shouldn't liberals, Democrats, gays, minorities etc avail themselves of their second amendment rights and acquire some serious heat?

There is some great stuff around. 50caliber sniper rifles with armor piercing capability, AK47's etc. etc.

I envision bumper stickers with "Straight Shooters for Gore" or whatever liberal or Dem is running. Gay Pride parades with the guys carrying NRA banners and with crossed bullet webs on their chests like Sylvester Stallone. Give Charlton Heston a heart attack. After 20 or 30 million serious weapons (or less) are in the hands of the "wrong people" the "powers that be" would begin to think seriously that weapons in the hands of civilians is not such a good idea and it could lead to gun control.

I think that the 2nd amendment is grossly misinterpeted on account of spelling not being a regulated discipline in 1770. The founding fathers meant to imply that citizens have a right to BARE arms......not BEAR arms. The reason that they thought it was necessary to include this in the Constitution was because the crazy Puritans had enacted laws that forced everyone to wear long sleeves all the time. The fathers, who mostly came from Virginia, knew how hot it could get here in the summer and so they wanted the citizens of the New Country to know that they sympathized with them and were willing to let them seek coolness when the weather turned too warm.

Besides what moron would want to exchange his or her perfectly functional human arms for dirty hairy sweaty clumsy bear arms?

Happy to be helpful.

Sirs:

It continues to amaze me that you apparently don't realize that the presence of firearms in the hands of law-obeying citizens has drastically and universally REDUCED crime.

Thank you for your time.
