Law and Order, Iraq Style
Heres some bizarre irony:
The Bush administration, who are about to let the Assault Rifle
Ban expire, has decided to issue an order to the US military command
in Iraq to start CONFISCATING assault rifles from all Iraqi citizens,
so as to stop rampant crime, violence, and lawlessness on the streets
of Baghdad.
Now I thought rightwing logic said that in order to maintain law
and order, the citizenry of a country should be well armed with
the most sophisticated hardware gun manufacturers could come up
with.
Gun Control?
Here's the way I see it, Mr. gunguy.. There are 80 million gun
owners in the United States.... There are 200 million LEGALLY owned
guns... Less than 1% of 1% of those guns will ever be used in the
commission of a crime... Your chances of being struck by lightning
are far greater than being a victim of gun violence... 36
states now have some form of a "shall Issue" concealed carry law.
What has happened in ALL of those states since these laws have been enacted,
Mr. gunguy ? I'll tell you what, Mr. gunguy - Gun related crime has gone down
!!! The average holder of a concealed carry permit has far more integrity than
the average gun-ban politician !! Let me ask you something, Mr. gunguy - If
I am confronted by a violent attacker, do I or do I not have the right to defend
myself ? Do you think that a woman laying beaten, battered and raped is morally
superior to a woman standing over the dead body of a rapist with a smoking
gun in her hand ? There's one more thing I'd like to mention, if you don't
mind Mr. gunguy... The one thing that seperates this country from the rest
of the world is simple - It's called freedom !! Have you ever heard of that
concept, Mr gunguy ? freedom, liberty and justice .... I wonder what would
become of these things if the government were to snatch up all the firearms
currently owned by law abiding citizens ?

The Founding Fathers and Their Guns
I keep reading this pro-gun drivel that the patriotic American
was busy pulling his flintlock out when George the Third became
a tyrant (shall I assume that the women were against the war of
independence?).
Major problem is that there was a significant amount of true patriots
who felt that George the Third was not a tyrant. Estimates of the
number of Loyalists range as high as 500,000, or 20 percent of
the white population of the colonies! About 19,000 Colonial Loyalists,
armed and supplied by the British, fought in the revolution against
the "Patriots." About 100,000 Loyalists left the country
after the revolution, including William Franklin, the son of Benjamin,
and John Singleton Copley, the greatest American painter of the
period. Most settled in Canada. Some eventually returned, although
several state governments excluded the Loyalists from holding public
office. In the decades after the Revolution, Americans preferred
to forget about the Loyalists. Apart from Copley, the Loyalists
became nonpersons in American history.
Unfortunately, my ancestor was one of those freezing his ass off
at Valley Forge while I'm not sure what Tom Paine (you know "sunshine
soldiers and summer patriots" was doing) being disciplined
by a German (Von Steuben). I am not sure whether my ancestor actually
had a flintlock since quite a few of the colonial soldiers carried
pikes if they had anything (maybe we should say "They can
take my pike away from my cold stiff fingers").
Add in that a lot of the folks who were running the show for the
American Patriots were named Lafayette, Louis Le Bègue de
Presle du Portail, François-Louis Teissèdre de Fleury,
La Rouërie (marquis de Tuffin),
Denis-Jean Florimond de Langlois, Jean-Joseph Sourbader de Gimat.
Hey FRENCHMEN!
Yeah, Aware that the new Continental Army needed engineers and
experienced artillerymen, as well as staff officers, the US Congress
requested that Silas Deane and Benjamin Franklin secure some professional
French officers with such skills. Even before this recruiting,
a number of French and other European military officers sought
to join the American Army as they learned of the thirteen colonies
revolt against England. Many joined even before the Battle of Bunker
Hill.
Yep, the French Contribution to the "Patriots" was so
strong that one of the causes for the French Revolution was the
fact that the French government helped bankrupt the coffers by
supporting the cause of American
Independence.
In 1779 Spain, hoping to reacquire territories taken by Britain
in the Seven Years' War, entered the conflict on the side of France,
but not as an ally of the Americans.
Problem is that victors control history. So, we are told of the
brave colonial soul like my ancestor, but neglect the real impetus
behind the war for Independence.
Think of what we would call the War for Independence and how we
would tell the story if the Loyalists had won.

Hello, I'm your average run of the mill petty criminal. I would
just like to say how much I appreciate the gun-control crowds activities
on my behalf. Can you just imagine how much easier (not to mention
safer) my line of work will be if all the decent law-abiding citizens
are permanently disarmed? Of course I'm not in the slightest bit
concerned about losing my gun, after all I'm a criminal, I'll have
a gun anyway. I look forward to the day when I can safley break
into a home and know that even if the resident has a gun, he'll
be afraid to use it because he may go to prison for possesion of
an illegal firearm. I mean it's pretty good now, I can even sue
someone for shooting me in their own home, they don't have the
right to do me any harm unless they can prove I was attempting
to do them bodily harm. All they can leglly do is sit and wait
for the police while I do whatever I choose but it will be even
better when I know no-one has a gun; after all it's kinda hard
to sue someone if they kill you. While I'm on the subject I'd like
to thank the average pro-gun believer. With the igoranant, profanity
filled type of arguments they choose, they give anti-gun activists
even more ammunition(no pun intended) in there fight to remove
guns from the hands of every law-abiding citizen in America. Thank
you all

Just curious
Hello,
I am a poor frenchman who is mystified about the U.S. gun culture.
Probably the most important question is why is the right to keep
and bear arms a god given right? Was this right mentioned in the
bible? In fact, are guns or firearms mentioned at all in the bible?
Why then is this right not mentioned in La Déclaration
des droits de l'homme et du citoyen a été adoptée
par
l'Assemblée constituante du 20 au 26 août 1789? Especially since
our national anthem states "Aux
armes, citoyens, Formez vos bataillons, Marchons, marchons!"
Perhaps Our weapons will be the tears that come us from injustice
as the singer Zazie suggests in her
song "Aux armes citoyennes".

Which communist country are you publishing your website from?
You idiots are the reason America has to bail other liberal
countries out from time to time.
I don't have any more time to talk to idiots like you. I need
to go out now and buy a Smith and Wesson .50 caliber, and a .50
caliber Desert Eagle to boot.
You boners can call the cops and wait while the rapists come
to kill your wife. I am calling Mr. Glock and Mr. Colt for an
immediate response.
Fuck you assholes!

Gunguy,
Interesting however that I support the ownership of firearms
by almost anyone. I used to think that there was no need of assault
type weapons in the hands of John Q citizen, but the more I see
of our own gov't run amok, the more I see why the guns are #2 on
the list by our constitution's framers - that in the end, it may
be your last resort against a tyrant. While I agree with 'Puddin'
Tame' that no one is perhaps going to stand-off against the gov't
forces or even local police, I do think it makes a difference in
the big picture that the guns are there. What happened in Germany
in the 1930's & 40's, it has been argued, was accomplished
much much easier because the citizens had only pitchforks & shovels.
When you watch the horrific films of nazi shit, what do you wish
you had when they come for your folks& the little small town
leaders are cooperating & the other citizens don't think that
they can do anything. It's not a question of standing off against
the police in an isolated incident but rather when you start to
see the major breakdown of the judicial system that's supposed
to protect your constitutional rights & they're actaully taking
people out of their homes.
Perhaps it will never get to that in the US. People are already
slaves to their debt as the system of the extreme wealthy (making
the rules) pulls out the rug as you go. And like the Jews in nazi
Germany, we're going willingly into slavery as the corporations & extreme
consumerism of the last 40 yrs gut the poor folks ability to even
know which end of their boot to pull up on. Guns aren't the problem,
it's a sickly society.
Word to the mustard, mothers!

Site of the Month possibility?
The supposedly gay group of gun owners, the Pink Pistols, have
their own
enemies list. And what a peculiar list it is!
http://www.pinkpistols.org/antigun.html
The stridently anti-gay Family Research Council mysteriously seem
to be OKAY with the Pink Pistols... so does the stridently anti-gay
American Family AssociationS ...as does the stridently anti-gay
Free Congress Foundation. So is Dobson's stridently anti-gay Focus
on the Family group....not a murmur of complaint
from the Pink Pistols for any of those groups. On the other hand they seem
to hate the ACLU, which has fought for gay rights. They hate the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, which has come out strongly for gay rights. The Episcopal
ChurchScurrently under fire for consecrating an openly gay bishop? The Pink
Pistols HATE the Episcopal Church. Jerry Falwell, who blamed gay people for
9/11...he's okay with them though. Not a word against Jerry Falwell, or Pat
Robertson. Crazy old Phyllis Schafly, who hates gays with a white hot passion...the
Pink Pistols seem to think she's just aces. Tony Scalia is a bigoted old turd,
but he doesn¹t make the Pink Pistols enemies list. On the other hand,
they can¹t stand Anne Heche, Debbie Reynolds, Bette Midler AND Barry Manilow.
What's up with THAT, do you suppose? Arlen Lindner of Minnesota, who claimed
gays were responsible for the worst of World War 2 (oh yes he did).
http://www.equality.org.za/news/2003/03/12arlon.htm
doesn't make the Pink Pistols hate list. Barbara Boxer, who has
fought for gay and lesbian rights tirelessly, did make the enemies
list. Bigoted Rick Santorum, who compared gay rights to "man
on dog sex" is just
dan-dan-dandy to the Pink Pistols, who DO save their hatred for..Barbra Streisand.
Bigoted Pat Buchanan complained publicly, "Rampant homosexuality,
a sign of cultural decadence and moral decline from Rome to Weimar,
is celebrated, as our first lady parades up Fifth Avenue to share
her Opride" in a lifestyle ruinous to body and soul alike." Pat's
not on the list, but Hillary Clinton, the first lady Pat condemned
for her association with gays, IS. Even nutty old Fred "Mr.
Rogers is in hell" Phelps is okey-dokey with the Pink Pistols...but
not Barney Frank. Jeeze, you don't suppose this could be yet another
sham group of right wing loonies pretending to be what they are
not, do you?
So this bunch is not at all critical of Jerry Falwell blaming
9/11 on them, but entirely bent out of shape by the American Academy
of Pediatricians telling parents not to keep guns where toddlers
can reach them? Gee, but it sure seems DAMN strange that Barney
Frank and loads of other pro-gay people and groups are being criticized
by a supposedly gay website that seems utterly and blissfully unconcerned
by anti-gay individuals and groups that say they have no right
to even exist. Especially when it is a website touting the issue
that some of the most bigoted people in America (including many
anti-gay ones) have seized as their own. And especially when the
largest and loudest group of those bigots has a penchant for phony
websites
and fake groups.
