Women Against Gun Control
"Stand by your Gun!" That's the message from our
August gun site of the month, Women Against Gun Control (http://www.wagc.com).
The gun gals sure know how to romance the gun guys -- pose with
a handgun. You can even download and hear a message from the
President that boasts, "You can't rape a .38."
But these gun gals forgot to mention that more often than not,
when women are killed with a handgun, it is from someone they
"know," as in the biblical sense of the word. In 1997
alone, women used a handgun to kill a stranger in self defense
six times. Compare that to the total number of women killed
by handguns in the same year, 1,270. And for more facts (the
gun guys & gals hate this stuff), women who were killed
by handguns in 1997, were shot 87% of the time by someone they
knew; 53% from an intimate partner -- as in "if the truck
is a rockin' don't come knocking;" 27% from a known acquaintance
-- as in "Can I borrow some butter?"; and 7% from
a family member - as in "Don't hit grandpa with the stick."
Whoops! I guess the gun gals forgot to tell us that. But who
has time for the truth when you have to find where to hide your
handgun without making your waist look bigger?
The site gets a 3 bullet rating from Gun Guys, but the grating
voice message from the President of Women Against Gun Control
gets 3 1/2.
